Kathryn Gaffney

Kathryn is an expert in habitat conservation planning. She primarily manages and directs the development and implementation of regional habitat conservation plans and natural community conservation plans in California for cities, counties, and water supply and flood control agencies.

Kathryn’s expertise is in the integration of aquatic resource permitting in regional species conservation plans. She worked on more than 15 regional and programmatic conservation plans, including plans with a focus on stream maintenance. Kathryn also stands up new conservation plans to ensure early implementation. She is adept at understanding her clients’ needs and works with them to define and employ a smooth and structured path to successful outcomes.

Kathryn supports marketing efforts, business development, thought leadership, and career growth. Since 2013, she has taught courses on conservation planning at the UC Davis Continuing and Professional Education program. Kathryn is currently pursuing a master’s degree in environmental law and policy from Vermont Law School. She also holds a master’s in landscape architecture in environmental planning from the College of Environmental Design at the University of California, Berkeley, and a bachelor’s degree in environment, economics, and politics from Claremont McKenna College.
